Group in biscuit porcelainin the style of the Falconet children created by Étienne-Maurice Falconet in 1757 for the Manufacture de Sèvres. These statuettes, characterized by a clear naturalism and inspired by François Boucher, feature children engaged in rural activities ("Le Faucheur", "La Faneuse") or small street vendors in Paris. Our biscuit depicts four young blacksmith sweethearts busy at work in the forge. Realism is the hallmark of these little workers, some of whom are dressed in large aprons. Their dexterity with hammer and tongs and their attitudes express the difficulty of this physical craft. The biscuit is presented on a black veined marble base.
