Teak display cabinet from a collection created by French designers Jacques-André Motte, Pierre Guariche and Michel Mortier's atelier A.R.P. (Atelier de Recherches Plastiques), published by Minvielle in the 1950s. The unit comprises 6 display cabinets with notched sliding glass doors, and two pedestals in the lower section opening out through side doors to reveal two storage spaces. The entire unit, arranged in two rows, rests on four rectangular black metal feet. This spectacle cabinet features removable shelves. Each shelf is held in place by four rubberized cleats. This furniture fits perfectly into the American Mid-Century Modern style. A.R.P. stands for Atelier de Recherches Plastique. Three French designers, Pierre Guariche, Jacques-André Motte and Michel Mortier, came together to shake up the codes of classicism and use technical and aesthetic innovations to design furniture in a more rational way. This partnership began in 1954, in the wake of the mass-produced furniture that industrialization was making accessible. Their innovative design proposals were published by Charles Minvielle stores and won two prizes at the Salon des arts ménagers in 1955. Their collaboration ended in 1957 when the designers set up their own workshops. Design period, Circa: 1950 Dim: W:156,5cm, D:45cm, H:200,5cm. Good condition, one mark on the right front.
