Roger Capron (1922-2006) was a French ceramist. He won numerous awards and is still highly regarded today. Passionate about ceramics, he approached the technique in many different ways. He modernized the traditional curves of Provencal pottery, developed mass production, turned his attention to decorative tiles and then to sculpture.
Roger Capron studied at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris until 1943. He developed a passion for ceramics and decided to open his own workshop in Vallauris with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. He is one of the artists who contributed to the return of the golden age of ceramics to Vallauris. In 1952, he opened a factory employing some fifteen workers. He received numerous awards in Milan, Cannes and Brussels. In 1970, he also won the Grand Prix International de la Céramique. The factory closed in 1982. Roger Capron's work can be found in numerous art galleries around the world.
