SMALL VASE IN VALLAURIS CERAMIC, BY SERAFINO FERRARO
Small ceramic vase decorated with metallic crystallizations by Vallauris artist Serafino Ferraro (1939-2017). This circular soliflore in blue and ochre is shaped like a pebble.
Vallauris ceramics encompass the production of workshops and factories in the Vallauris region (France). At the end of the 19th century, the arrival of the railroads enabled production to expand, and the town's small workshops were transformed into full-fledged factories. Then, in the 20th century, culinary pottery began to decline (replaced by metal vessels), giving way to artistic ceramics. But it was in the late 1940s, with the arrival of Picasso in Vallauris, that the town's image as a center of traditional pottery took hold. In the 1950s, the greatest artists and architects converged on Vallauris.
