Beautiful pair of Louis XV period mercury ormolu andirons. The two symmetrical pendant putti are seated on leafy scrolls.
Andirons gave the opportunity to bronzemakers under Louis XV to display their utmost imagination, combining different rocaille motifs or imitating nature. Indeed, the ever-increasing concern for realism in the treatment of bronze reflects the desire to rival nature.
