CERAMIC WALL PANEL BY JEAN DE LESPINASSE

Wall panel by Jean de LESPINASSE (1896-1979), comprising 8 ceramic tiles with polychrome enamel decoration inlaid on a rosewood veneer panel.

The ensemble features a rider with spear and shield, riding a black stallion. At his side, a groom tries to calm the animal. The geometric shapes and primary colors of the men's and animal's clothing and armor are reminiscent of oriental decor.

The panel is monogrammed "JdL" lower right.

Jean de Lespinasse (JdL) was a renowned ceramist in the 1940s. At the end of the war, he opened his local craft workshop, and later founded SOCFRA with his wife. They crossed paths with Roger Capron. Jean de Lespinasse is known for his large-scale works, and his mastery of the art of ceramics through his interplay of matte and brilliant glazes.
