Gilded bronze mantel clock featuring a bearded Greek warrior wearing a helmet and holding his spear, representing Leonidas, King of Sparta from 489 BC to 480 BC. The silver dial is set in a post on which rests a ewer, a cup, a laurel branch and a letter inscribed "THERMOPYLES", recalling the battle Leonidas led against the Persians, which made him famous but during which he died. The rectangular base is decorated with the attributes of war, palmettes and laurel, symbol of the victors. Restoration period, Circa: 1820 Dim: W:38cm, D:16cm, H:62cm. In good overall condition, with a few stains on the dial and slight light wear. The wire mechanism has been cleaned and serviced, and is in working order.
