A very large and beautiful alabaster sculpture, executed with finesse and a keen eye for detail, by Emilio Fiaschi gracefully depicts a woman with an elegant bearing and harmonious features, resting on a balustrade in a comfortable, sensual, and highly sophisticated arched pose. She covers her smooth skin with flowing fabrics that ripple and cling to her body. Circa 1890
Emilio Fiaschi (1858-1941), also known as Emiliano, was born in Volterra. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence from 1883 to 1885, where he spent most of his career. He is renowned for his marble and alabaster sculptures of nude women, emphasizing the curves of the hips and waist. He died in Florence in 1941.
Condition report: In good overall condition with natural variations in the alabaster. Chips on the edges of the balustrade and the base. Base diameter: 23 cm.
