A small bronze vase with a double brown and red patina decorated with a nude woman seated on a floating drapery around the neck. Signed "P. AUBÉ" on the body. Stamp of the founder Thiebaut Frères Paris

Jean-Paul Aubé (1837-1916) was a French sculptor born in 1837 in Longwy, Lorraine. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Antoine Laurent Dantan and Francisque Duret. In 1866, he made a trip to Italy, which influenced him to develop a neo-Renaissance and later Rococo style. Aubé exhibited at the Salon des artistes français, where he won two gold medals in 1874 and 1876. He taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His students include Gaston Lachaise, Charles Virion and Jean Baffier. Aubé was named Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1888, then Officier in May 1910.
