A gilt bronze sculpture vase with a woman and satyr in relief on a naturalist background. It was mounted as a lamp and electrified. Signed "Jules Méliodon" and dated 1896 towards the base. Marked "LOUCHET" on the back of the base. Art nouveau period. Very nice pleated and embroidered lampshade.

Jules MELIODON (1867 - after 1940) was a French sculptor, a pupil of Falguière, Fremiet, Barrou and Messagé. He participated in the Salon of 1902 where he obtained an Honourable Mention. Meliodon worked in 1933 in Philadelphia for the figures of the Board of Education building. He was a professor of modelling at the University of Pennsylvania.
