Pair of Louis XV style CHANDELIERS à Putti candlesticks, 19th century

Pair of Louis XV style candlesticks with two arms of light, in chased gilt bronze. The curved shaft is formed by a brown patina bronze putto wrapped and holding in its arms two gilded bronze scrolls of twisted acanthus leaves. The exuberant, random shape of the light arms lends a great deal of movement to these fully Rocaille candlesticks. The bud-shaped wicks crown this pair of Rococo-style pedestal candlesticks. The set rests on four small feet chased with openwork foliage. These two table candlesticks were made in the second half of the 19th century, when the Rocaille style was widely revived and amplified under the reign of Napoleon III.
