CLOCK IN GILDED BRONZE, PATINA AND SIENNA MARBLE REPRESENTING A ROMAN WARRIOR

Sold
Current stock : 0

Important clock featuring a Roman warrior in green patina bronze. Leaning forward, he leans on his bent left leg, resting on a rock, and on his bow, which he holds with his left hand. In keeping with classical tradition, the sculptor depicts the warrior entirely naked, wearing only the Roman helmet and a drapery covering his right shoulder and one leg. His bearded face, turned to the left, reveals a certain tension and pain. The rock houses the concave ormolu dial with Roman numerals for the hours, chased with palmettes and stylized fleur-de-lys. It rests on a naturalistic terrace raised by a high Sienna marble base decorated on all three sides with foliage, scrolls and fluting. The base is composed of four legs, the front two of which are adorned with stylized flowers, foliage and horns of plenty. Restoration period, Circa: 1820 Dim: W:41cm, D:13,5cm, H:60,5cm.
