Polychrome alabaster sculpture of a woman's bust by A. Gory, late 19th century
Bust in polychrome alabaster, representing a young woman, signed "Gory". The young woman wears a hairstyle braided with flowers and looks down in an expression close to that of the busts in Antique. Her bust is carved in a slightly darker alabaster allowing a very nice contrast between the skin and the draped bustier that dresses her. The garment is adorned with chiselled vegetal frieze and flower motifs in an Art Nouveau taste. À At the back, a bun separates the hair into two braids. The visible veining of the alabaster gives a unique character to this charming sculpture of a woman. The whole rests on a pedestal with cut sides, itself carved in front of flowers, leaves and branches. This sculpture is signed by the Italian sculptor Affortunato Gory, active between 1895 and 1925.
