This bronze statue with shaded brown patina is signed Eugène Marioton (1854-1933) and depicts a winged man with a slender posture. In his right hand, the nude young man delicately holds a light sheet and in the other a dragonfly. The butterfly wings on his back are finely engraved. The cast is early edition and the founder's mark, "E. Colin et Cie, Paris", is engraved below Eugène Marioton's signature on the base. The sculpture rests on a Portor marble base. Eugène Marioton, born in 1857, was a French sculptor and medalist, brother of sculptor Claudius Marioton and painter Jean Alfred Marioton. Eugène Marioton trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and took part in the sketching competition in 1883, where he presented "La Fille de Jephté". He won 1st prize in the Société libre des beaux-arts competition with his marble bas-relief "Héro et Léandre". He subsequently participated regularly in the Salon de la Société des artistes français, becoming a member of the jury in 1905 in the sculpture section. He died in 1933. Late 19th century, Circa: 1890 Dim: W:32cm, D:23cm, H:73cm. Very good condition. Some traces of oxidation. Slight loosening at the joint between shoulder and forearm.
